National implementation
of school choice legislation has created an unprecedented opportunity
for educators, communities, and parents to develop progressive
learning environments. Families of the Del Paso Heights community
in Sacramento are working together with the Sharwin Charter
School Board, ImageWorks Architecture, and the California Department
of Education to create a new kind of learning environment for
their children.
The Sharwin Charter School Academy will open a new seven-acre
700-student K-6 campus in the fall of 2007. This campus will
include two-story classroom buildings, library and multi-purpose
buildings for student and community use, and a child care
center. Community involvement, expectations, and enthusiasm
for this project are extremely high.
ImageWorks Architecture has worked closely with the community
and school officials to create a national award-winning design
for the creative integration of sustainable building design
components into economical building construction methods.
Comprehensive master planning and effective implementation
of the architectural design elements unify and complete this
award-winning school.
